Former Magic FC defender, Zaahir Witbooi, who was released in February so that he could play in the Bayhill tournament, was selected to go on tour to Europe with Orlando Pirates’ development team.
The youngster from Grassy Park thought his dreams were ruined when he missed a penalty against Ajax Cape Town and was then sent off for a second yellow card, but his performances for GP during the tournament caught the eye of the Pirates technical team and they approached him and his father after the tournament. Magic FC coach George Dearnaley says “Zaza has all the technical and physical qualities to make it as a professional player. When he first arrived at The Magic, he was raw and perhaps not as tactically aware or disciplined as he could be but we worked hard on him and when he played for us he never let the tea down. We are very proud to have played a small role in his development and look forward to seeing him make the most of his potential. Magic happens – you must just #Believe (and work hard!!)”
