Mitchells Plain striker Therlo Moosa and Soweto-born defender Tshepiso “Shabba” Thlapi walked off with the top awards at The Magic FC’s end-of-year celebrations last week.
Moosa netted 26 goals this past season, 22 of them coming in the league competition. The others were scored in the Nedbank Cup contest where The Magic lost in the final. The 24-year-old was the League’s top scorer as well setting a new goals in a season record for The Magic FC. The achievement earned him the club’s Golden Boot Award. He was also voted the Players’ Player of the Year.
Thlapi was honoured with the prestigious Player of The Year Award. The 32-year old defender was the stand-out performer in The Magic’s rock-solid defence.
“It is hard to ignore a player who scored 26 goals, but “Shabba” put his body on the line for the club every week,” club coach George Dearnaley said.
“His work ethic in training was an example for all young players, and his dedication to his career is an inspiration to all who play with or against him.”
“He was the team captain, our leader and the man who inspires everyone around him to work hard and to give their all.”
“I’m pleased to say that both Therlo and Shabba will be back with The Magic next year.”
That is good news for the Oude Molen-based club which is hoping to go one better next season. They finished runners-up behind Champions Steenberg, which was an improvement on their fourth placed finish last year.
The Rookie of The Year Award went to 20-year-old Azeemud-deen ‘Zimo’ Brenner, who hails from Ocean View and played with Ubuntu. He started in almost every game this year.
