The Magic FC kept up their 100% record in the league with a hard fought 2-0 victory over visitors Hout Bay United FC on Friday 21st September. Hout Bay managed to survive a few early scares as The Magic went in search of an early goal but managed to get themselves into the game after 15 minutes and started to create some openings themselves. The 1st half was a cat and mouse affair with neither defence giving anything away and both attacks trying to make something out of half chances.
The 2nd half saw the home team come out with a little more energy and we increased the tempo of our passing and our movement. With 30 minutes left to play Captain Danian Wareley, back from injury, pounced on a loose ball in the Hout Bay goal area and headed home after good work by Thurlow Wood, Shaheed Abrahams and Therlo Moosa. The goal lifted the home sides spirits and it wasn’t too long before we had doubled our lead. A mistake at the back by Hout Bay gave us an indirect free kick just inside their goal area, and Thurlow Wood smashed home the kick from an acute angle. The Magic were happy to sit back and play on the counter attack as Hout Bay had to come forward and although our Bulelani Cola had to make a few saves, we were also unlucky not to increase our lead through a combination of poor finishing and poor decision making.
But the 2-0 scoreline, our first clean sheet in the league, and the other results of the weekend, means that our lead at the top is extended to 6 points ahead of 2nd placed Santos after only 5 games – with another 25 games still to be played!
