Magic go down in 1st loss of the season
The Magic suffered their 1st loss of the season when they went down 1-2 against Morning Stars away in Gansbaai. It was our 1st loss in 11 league and cup matches.
The game was played on a big astro turf field in hot and windy conditions and The Magic never adjusted to the conditions until the last few minutes.
Stars didn’t look like a team that were in the bottom half of the league table and came out firing from the start. They took the lead in the 30th minute after some sloppy defending by the away team and held their lead until half time.
Whatever was said in the Magic dressing room at half time was quickly forgotten as Stars increased their lead early in the 2nd half after another defensive mix up, with 2 Magic players colliding with each other in the goal area and leaving the home player with an open goal to tap into. Coach David Kannemeyer started to make some changes and the substitutions seemed to work with Thurlow Wood pulling a goal back for us from a great freekick. It was all Magic in the last 10 minutes as our boys looked to find an equalizer and keep their unbeaten record intact, but try as they might they could not find the back of the net, and when the ref blew the final whistle without adding any injury time, our unbeaten run had come to an end.
Now we have to pick ourselves up and start another unbeaten run as we hold onto top spot in the league but the pack have closed in on us.
