One week after a tough cup match against Santos, we had to face the same opponents in a league match at Old Mutual. We had no doubt they would be looking for revenge and prepared the team for a tough physical battle the whole week.Santos started off strongly and dominated possession and position in the early exchanges but The Magic were soon into the game and took the lead after 10 minutes with a close range finish from defender Kyle Adriaanse after a great corner. Before Santos knew what hit them, we hit them again – this time Captain Danian Warley firing home from the edge of the area after good work by Luke Vester and Shaheed Abrahams down the right flank. Santos pushed hard to pull a goal back before half time but our defende stood firm.Santos took the game to us in the 2nd half and we lost our shape and our composure. A combination of some desperate defending and poor finishing by Santos kept our 2-0 lead intact, but with time running out the Santos keeper launched a 1-man counter attack and his long ball into our goal area was misjudged by our defence and after a collission between keeper Bulelani Cola and their player, the linesman signalled for a penalty which was smashed home off the crossbar to give Santos a glimmer of hope. But although our performance wasn’t great, our committment and work ethic was superb and we managed to hold on for our 4th win in 4 games and the only team to win their first 3 league games.
